DEAR YULETIDE WRITER, hi hi hi, thank you in advance for writing for me this yuletide! I am so looking forward to reading! Requests and some prompts are below, but obv if you have a story in your head you want to tell about these people, go for it! I’m sure I’ll love it!
The Girls at the Kingfisher Club - Genevieve Valentine: Any (Jo Hamilton, Lou Hamilton, Tom (The Girls at the Kingfisher Club), Jake (The Girls at the Kingfisher Club))
The thing that I love so much about this book is how separate Jo is from her sisters, how lonely it is being the general, but also how Lou is right there with her through it all supporting her, even while sometimes also sort of hating her, caged in with her in that house. I love that Jo picked Lou as the first sister to save, I love that Lou ran away fast, I love that Lou came back, I love that Jo loves Tom and Jake loves Lou but Lou and Tom’s feelings are not quite so transparent, I love that they all have such a history from years and years of going out dancing, how their present-day selves are a little older and wiser than when the girls would’ve first met the guys. I’d love to see something from the early days, or I’d love to see something later on, post book, them all settling into their new lives or, what happens if Lou and Tom didn’t come back, if Jo didn’t tell Tom not to fall in love with Lou, if Jo and Jake had to find a way to move on at the Marquee together. I pretty much ship these four in every combination so if thats your jam, go wild, or if you want to focus on just one person, that's great too.
A League of Their Own: Dottie Hinson, Jimmy Dugan
I have been thinking about this movie a lot lately, partly because it is truly, in my heart, one of the greats, partly because I just reread that ESPN oral history and was reminded that they filmed (and then cut) a kiss between these two, and partly because having recently gotten into watching professional women’s soccer, I’ve been wondering about what a modern-day AAGPBL would look like. I would honestly love to see anything for these two—platonic, romantic, they love each other, they hate each other, they’re late night roadtrip bus buddies, they’re the two adults in charge of a teamfull of ladies and also Miss Cuthbert. What if Dottie doesn’t leave, what if she comes back, what if Jimmy’s the only one who understands why she dropped that ball. You can include Bob or the idea of Bob, or you can not—if you’re going the romantic route, fictional cheating doesn’t bother me, because I am a wretch.
Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - Taylor Jenkins Reid: Celia St. James, Evelyn Hugo
Gosh, I loved this book. I somehow didn’t know what it was about when I started it, and then I suspected, and then I got to the first kissing scene, and BOY did it deliver! I’d love to see their early days from Celia’s point of view, I’d love to see just more of everything—them being together, them being apart, them working together, them attending fancy LA events separately but also together, them finding their version of domestic NYC bliss, them finding their way back to each other, again and again. Or, them fighting, them being jealous of each other’s fake boyfriends, them if their story was unfolding in 2019, not in old Hollywood.
Sneaky Pete: Marius Josipovic, Julia Bowman
I promise I didn’t mean to request two incest-adjacent fandoms, but welp, here we are. They’re not really cousins! It’s totally fine! I’d love to see them post-series, what happens when they all go back to Bridgeport--how long is it until some new family crisis brings Marius back to town? How long is it until he comes back on his own? Is there a con Marius needs Julia’s help on? Does Julia end up going to jail? OR, rewind back to when Julia finds out Marius isn’t really Pete and is furious at him, and maybe they have hate sex. I also do very much love them platonically, as well—watching Julia have to babysit him and his con all of season three, and going back all the way to the pilot watching them working together to catch that first skip—those moments are true highlights for me.
Stumptown: Dex Parios, Miles Hoffman
What a vibe these two have going for them—sex without feelings where potentially at least one party is gonna have alllll the feelings is my total favorite! Things I’d love to see: hurt/comfort, especially if the hurt is emotional and inflicted by the other person; casual sex that turns into a relationship without either person realizing it; jealousy seeing each other with other people; a case that throws them together; Dex being vulnerable; both of them working through their past ghosts; seeing each other all dressed up, instead of in detective clothes and a dusty old bomber jacket. Romantic or platonic, I just find these two delightful. A disclaimer I always make with currently airing shows—I know it’s super tricky writing something that’s constantly at risk of getting jossed, so if you want to incorporate things that are happening as they air, if you want to take it AU from an episode, whatever works for you works for me.
General likes: Shippiness! Friends, enemies, adventures, and gen! Mutual pining, fake dating, first times, last times, five times, breakups, makeups! Angst, porn, fluff! Fancy dress, only one bed, they’ve been secretly together the whole time! Spy AUs, modern AUs, living a life of crime AUs!
General dislikes: Noncon! Violence against women! Misogyny, racism, homophobia!
